How To Set Goals For Weight Loss, Health and Success!

Hi I am Vanessa Lambert, co-founder and creator of Bee The Wellness and the Unveil Your Wellness Program.
I help people just like you become fitter, healthier, and experience better balance and peace of mind in their lives. When I am not wearing my health coach hat, I am also a singer songwriter and performance artist. Having both a music career and a wellness company, I have had to learn some important lessons when it comes to my own balance and how I set goals for myself that reinforce positive habits and avoid making things more stressful than they need to be. In this video we are going to talk about goal setting. Specifically, how to set goals that are attainable and will create positive feedback to help you keep striving and reaching to uncover your next highest potential.
Many of us have heard throughout out lives that the key to success is setting goals and then following through. Although this is partly true, I want to talk to you today about how to set goals in a concise fashion that keeps you excited, engaged, and consistently driven.
When I decided I wanted to be a singer. I dropped everything in my life, moved to Nashville, started waitressing to pay for guitar lessons, song writing lessons ,and eventually my first album. When I moved there I set a goal that I would complete all of the above, move to LA within a year, get a record deal, go on tour, and basically be well into my career within a year. Obviously that was a pretty lofty goal in a short period of time and to be quite honest, goals that big require a little time to mature and fall into place. It’s not that the goal itself was bad, but I forgot to recognize the smaller success I was having along the way. I set myself up to feel like a constant failure. Yes dreaming big is great but having large broad sweeping goals can sometimes have the opposite effect and can unfortunately cause us undue hardships. We feel disappointed and let down that we haven’t achieved everything we set out to in a short amount of time.
When I look back, I accomplished so much in that year. I was actually able to move out to Nashville, work on my artistry, support myself, write and record my first album and move back to LA to further pursue my career. I accomplished so many wonderful things but I wasn’t able to celebrate any of these successes because in my mind I had failed. It’s only been in the last few years that I have really learned that goal setting doesn’t have to be failure inducing and in fact if I am able to recognize the gains I am making, that I am more encouraged and more excited to keep striving towards my dreams. This is one of the biggest mistakes we see people make. They set goals and expectations of themselves that are so difficult to reach, that they consistently reinforce to themselves that they are a failure. So let’s talk about some strategies to avoid this so you can consistently make gains and stay on track towards realizing your dreams.

1. Set attainable Goals
For example, if your goal is to make a million dollars running your own business, set an attainable goal in which you can feel immediately successful in. Like making your first sale and then your first 20 sales. Or if you want to lose weight and feel healthy, set some small goals like eating healthy and exercising for one entire day and then one entire week. This is a big deal in the beginning and you should celebrate every success along the way.

2. Decide Who You Are
It’s important to decide who you are. We talk about this in our year long wellness program Unveil Your Wellness and the idea is that rather than saddling yourself with far off distant goals or ides of who will become. Decide who you already are. Decide you are already the kind of person who eats right and exercises. You are the kind of person who gets plenty of sleep and drinks lots of water. Focus on things that you can immediately identify with. Not something that you are waiting to become.

3. Are You Self Sabataging
Lastly, take a hard look at your behaviors and see if you indulge in any self sabotaging type behavior. Do you set goals that are way out of reach because emotionally you don’t think you really deserve to achieve your dreams? You may need to do a little soul searching to really look at your behavior and see if you are getting in your own way. I think this is a huge thing to really think about and work on. One thing I find that can be super helpful for this is some kind of mindfulness or meditation practice. Even just 10 minutes a day you can really start to work on some of those default settings that might be getting in your way emotionally or spiritually.
